German Model 1942
This M42 helmet surfaced recently in a flea market in North Carolina. It is a size 64 and is stamped “NS” for the Vereinigte Deutsche Nicklewerke factory in Schwerte, Ruhr. The lot number is D464. According to Brian Ice’s book[1], this places the production of this helmet sometime after August 1943 after the decal drop. The helmet lacks liner and chinstrap, but it has three original split pins and washers. The split pin in the rear has lost one arm. What I like about this piece is that it regains a good percentage of its original slate grey factor paint and has an appealing overall patina. It has great shelf appeal!
